Getting there!

The nearest airport to Sankt Peter Ording is Hamburg. From there, the easiest way is by train via Husum. By car via Hamburg, Stade and Tönning directly to the beach. Sankt Peter Ording offers numerous parking facilities. These are all very centrally located in the village or on the dike or on the beach itself. For bus lovers there are extra two large bus parking. Attention must be paid to the respective signs regarding parking disc requirement or parking machines.

Kitespot - Territory

Sankt Peter Ording is considered by many to be the best surf spot in Germany. This is partly due to the huge sandy beach which is up to 2km wide and 12km long! However, here are a few rules to consider so kitesurfing is only allowed in the advertised zones! The occurring flow due to the tides should not be underestimated. It is worthwhile to ask the locals or have a tide calendar with you! The kites may only be set up at the water's edge.

Wind & Weather

The wind frequency in Sankt Peter Ording is relatively high throughout the year as the spot is in the west wind zone. From 2bft to 20bft everything is here. The best wind directions for Sankt Peter Ording are north, south and west. The best wind conditions are from March to June and from September to October. In the summer months of July and August, long periods of quietness occur. The climate in Sankt Peter Ording is typically German, i.e cold winters and mild summers, where the temperature is usually in the double-digit range.


In Sankt Peter Ording, next to campsites and hotels there are also some cottages, which are often offered for cheap money last-minute. Near the surfing beach is the camping Biehl. Right on the beach is the Beach Motel SPO where you not only have a nice accommodation with a view of the North Sea but also a spa. In addition, there are dogs allowed.

There are two kite schools in Sankt Peter Ording. The X-H2O water sports center and the UP-Wind kite school. There you can find out about the best times for a training, because there is no standing area in Sankt Peter Ording (except at low tide). You also have the possibility to borrow material there. There is also a mobile kite school there, This school rides condition dependent on the best spots in the area. The only kite shop in Sankt Peter Ording is the kite power shop. There you will find everything about kite sports, whether on the water or on land!
