The quickest way to get to Cabarete is via the international airport in Puerto Plata. This is about a good half hour drive from Cabarete. An alternative way to get there is via the Las Americas airport in Santo Domingo. However, this is depending on traffic 3 to 4 hours drive away from Cabarete. From here it is worth booking a domestic flight. The cost of the flight is affordable as long as you can rely on a domestic flight. Intercity buses also go from all parts of the country to Cabarete, but you should bring enough time.
The first place to be in the middle of kitesurfing in Cabarete is Kite Beach. Here you can find both shallow water conditions and waves. Near the coast you have perfect shallow water conditions. If you drive approx. 300m into the sea, the waves break in the outer reef belt. The prevailing wind is here diagonally onshore. Many spots can be found around the spot, including the Kiter Hotel Aqualina.
The temperatures in Cabarate are very constant throughout the year. Here the average temperature is 27 degrees Celsius. The climate is tropical which makes the humidity relatively high year round. You can find the best wind from January to August, with the months from June to August being considered the windiest. The wind in Cabarete builds up over the late morning and reaches its peak around noon before it flattens again towards evening. For late-risers or the cocktail after-effect of the eve, this is ideal.
In Cabarete you will find almost exclusively small to medium sized hotels and pensions. Young and old meet on the island state. Age does not matter here. The closer you want to be on the beach, the higher the prices. If you want to get away from the nightlife a bit, you should look for accommodation on Kite Beach. For party people it is advisable to look for accommodation in Cabarete. A luxury beachfront hotel, for example, is the Valero Beach Resort. Simple self-catering guesthouses can be found at Secret Garden.
Kite schools are in Cabarete like sand by the sea. Here should be gone on site just to get a personal impression. In the first conversation, it is best to explore whether the chemistry between kite school and kite student is right. Rated kite stations include the ION Club and the Franz Fix Kiteboarding Center. Both of these stations also provide a lifeboat service to rescue any "kiteless"!
As the name suggests, the Kitebeach is the central spot. Many parking lots, many kiters. Here you can go kiting between the pros. Great beach for take-off and landing. Sanitary facilities are also available. Good shopping and food options right across the street. You drive to Melkbos when the wind in Blouwberg is too strong and BigBay too full. The spot is located north of the town center in the direction of the nuclear power plant. Large tarred parking lot. Huge beach, so landing and starting no problem. Great waves.
There is no real shopping center in Cabarete. The shops have settled down next to the main street. Here you can find Dominican artifacts, cigars and typical souvenirs. Cabarete offers a varied cuisine. A typical Dominican meal is Bandera Dominicana, which should definitely be tried. In the city itself, there are many bars and pubs which encourages the typically relaxed Dominican lifestyle. In addition to kite surfing, alternative sports such as diving, biking, rafting, horseback riding and golf can also be practiced.
